The Lord, our Shepherd RJD March 2014

Journal Entry March 6 2010
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.” Psalm 23:1 (NIV)

The Lord is—God is alive. He is active.
                       He watches over us.
He stretches His hand to protect us.
He wraps His arms of love around us.
                         He is present.

my shepherd—He guides us; He protects us.
He watches over us; He tends our hearts.
He helps us when we get into trouble.
He is alert to our enemies.
He is alert to our needs.

not be in want–with God directing our lives, our wants are minimal. He provides all our needs
We must thank Him for our daily provisions.

Update:
In the past four years, since I penned these words, God has been with us.  Our son got established in a good job. We have enjoyed some fun times with our friends down where Hubby grew up. I have had the opportunity to expand my writing opportunities. I thank God for each of these blessings.
As I sit here entering these thoughts into my computer, I have to trust God for the outcome of a few health issues that seem to have entered our lives. All I can do is remember that God wants what is best for us. When you think of me, please say a prayer asking God’s will for us. I am not at liberty to say what all of this is about but I know you will pray for us.

  1. I will definitely be praying for you and your family. I totally understand about "health issues"...and we do know that God is working on our behalf even in the difficult places of life. My family is in the midst of one such place right now...and if it weren't for the Lord strengthening and undergirding us, I don't know how we could stand it. We have a Great God...our Shepherd. Thank you for this reminder today. Blessings and peace to you. In Jesus' Name.

  4. Cecelia,
As always I so enjoy that your words cut right to the heart of the matter. Like lean cuts of meat, no excess; just delicious and prime cuts. I like this observation: "He is alert to our enemies" ...sometimes we think God is unaware of the things we have suffered , even minor at the hands of those who are against us, but He is "alert to our enemies" and of course the biggest enemy of all. All is under His watchful care. Lovely thoughts on our Good Shepherd. I will be praying for you as well. Thanks for being such a faithful Journal Keeper participant and contributor! Hugs.

    1. Dawn: Thank you for your warm thoughts. Today, I begin an adjustment to Daylight Savings Time. (I don't really care for it.) God makes us alert to the events and circumstances around us and uses us to work things out for the good of those innocents close to the situation. Thank you for your prayers.

  5. I'll pray for you right this moment. I, too, know about health issues. I know that what is most needed is peace and joy. Exactly what your poem implies God's about. To know He's walking around in the fire with you--whatever that fire is--that is what I am praying for you. What an amazing grace that is. Jesus in the fire with you. Love to you.

    1. Jeskmom: I am studying Ephesians right now. Paul starts all his letters to the different churches by extending them grace and peace. I like that.
Thank you for your kind thoughts. Thank you for your prayers.

  6. I love how you used your journal to meditate on the Scripture...I have been struggling with ways to interact with the Word...this gives me a renewed desire to break the bread of the word into pieces so I can better digest them...thanks!
