Psalm 111:10 RJD May 2014

Journal Entry May 1, 2010

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding.” Psalm 111:10

(The scripture verse above appears at the bottom of the page. I wrote in words above the key words in this passage. Above fear, I wrote, respect; atop beginning, start. Over precepts, laws.)

In order to gain wisdom we have to have respect for God and His guidance. WE have to surrender all we know to Him who gave us the capacity to learn.

We can’t get angry if God wants to not do what we want. Also, He determines what we have or don’t have.

Years ago we were looking for a house to purchase. I read of one in the country. We drove out to it and turned the car around and drove slowly past it. On the second drive past, Hubby talked about making positive improvements to the property.  But the house was not to be ours.

I worked out of town and had to meet a ride. The house we eventually found was on the main route to a hospital- in the winter time our street is one of the first streets cleared of snow. The house in the country was on a road that could have been one of the first ones drifted shut in a snowstorm. God knew our need.

Also, the house in the country might have been on a well. If the mineral content of that water had been a certain way, our son and I could have had serious problems but we didn’t know that until at least six years later.

God’s wisdom is without equal. When we follow His guidance, we will gain the knowledge we need.

Update
God guides each of us through circumstances in our lives. We might not be aware of why he denies us what we desire at that time. If we are patient and wait for what God deems best for us, He will give us what we need.

Our home is located three blocks from the elementary school our son attended and the junior high was roughly three blocks in another direction from us. The hospital is a half mile or so away. When we have to, we can get there in a couple of minutes. After living here for ten years, I started attending a small church located a half mile south of our home.

I grew spiritually because of what I learned while I sat under God’s instruction in that small holiness church. He also allowed me to meet some very devout and godly people, many of whom I count as friends today. God has been good to us.

  1. I have many experiences of God's guidance. He really knows what's best for us! Can't imagine going through life blind to the reality that God is real and He loves us, and He wants to do what is best for us. If we partner with Him, we will have the best life we can have here on earth! Have a great weekend! patsy

  2. I have always found in life that when God "Closed one door, He opens another", and the one He closed was for a very good reason that I couldn't understand at the time, but as you have said above, He had reasons that were for our good. Thank you for another wonderful example of how our heavenly Father leads us...if we will just trust Him! Great post.

  3. You learned a valuable lesson, of letting God choose the methods by which he answers our prayers. How lovely of him to be patient with us, and how wise of you to obey!

  4. He is faithful. However, I would also say that even when we are "angry" with God, He is still faithful to us. He is gracious to us and patient with us as we learn to trust Him. It would be convenient to never be angry, frustrated or impatient with God's hand and timing. But I have found that because He is faithful and gracious to me in my wrong response to Him, I have learned to be the same way to others as they strive in their own walks with learning to trust God. We are human, He is God. I am grateful for you sharing your God insights and lessons here with us Cecelia. I appreciate your steady , quiet spirit. ;)

    1. Dawn: Thank you for your kind thoughts. Yes, God is faithful. In the hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness", there is a phrase that someone quoted to me during an exciting, yet tense time in my life. "Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow." He gives us that strength each day and also that hope for the next and the ones that follow,

  5. Hi Cecelia! I just love hearing about how God overrides our ideas to give us something better. It took a few years, but you learned how faithful he was to you. Your house was situated perfectly for you and your son. So close to the hospital too! And your new church home.
He truly knows our needs before we even speak them. Love this post :)

    1. Ceil; Thank you for your kind comments. As we mature in Christ, we learn so much from the experiences he takes us through, My family was part of that church for 17 years. We visited another church for a few months and started attending yet another one in search of the place we were to be. And, guess what. That church chose to merge with a sister church on the east side of town and bought a church building 1.5 miles from our home. We live on the north side of town. A lot of the businesses have migrated from the downtown area to the south side. Those two churches were on the south side of town.

  6. Such great insight here, Cecelia. The times when God says a small no because He has a bigger YES in mind. He had your well-being in sight all along, while all you could see was what was right in front of you. Thank you for this reminder. We see it all more clearly when we look backwards, don't we?

  7. It's always amazing, looking back at God's hands in our lives. As many times as we've moved and I've waited, frustrated and often angry for taking so long, God has ALWAYS faithfully placed us perfectly, exactly, where we need to be. God is so good--how blessed are we to have His love!

Thank you for visiting my blog. We sometimes forget who is in charge of our lives. I have to stop and take note that it isn't me, it's Him.

  9. Cecelia- I appreciate the way you interact with Scripture verses...I want to try that writing a similiar word above the one in the verse to gain insight and deeper meaning and even more practical application. Thanks as always for gently sharing His words. I enjoyed reading about your journaling and writing journey over at Dawn's. Your heritage is rich in His Word!
