Random Journal Day Aug. 2015. Consider: Our Gratitude

My teal journal has those leaves imprinted in the cover.

    Journal Entry March 22, 2004
    Luke 17:11-19
Jesus sent ten lepers to the priest. As they were enroute, they all were healed. Only one of them returned to thank Him. This grateful man happened to be a Samaritan—an ethnic outcast.
Do we count ourselves as the grateful person who took the time to back up and say ,”Thank you” to Jesus? Or will we get to heaven’s gate and hear,” I never knew you, you didn’t appear grateful for all the Father did for you”?
What are some things we should be grateful for?

  1. Our Salvation
  2. God’s Presence in our lives
  3. Our Families
  4. Our Church Families and friends
  5.  Our health/healings
  6.  God’s presence in and control over His creation
  7.   Sensing His presence

God gives us so much; our only response should be to thank Him!

UPDATE:
We all have a lot to thank God for. My list for thanking Him consists of everything from morning naps to having our son live in the same state. I sometimes record as many as six a day. But also, I have days when I have to really think about what I did that day to come up with a couple of them. I have been going through an extended ‘blah’ time but God has been there with me. I feel His presence each day. I am grateful for His presence and I thank Him for that regularly
Do you feel His presence when you have times of being downhearted?

  1. Lovely, Cecelia! I have tried to do my gratitude list daily, but end up not being as consistent as it appears you are. We do run out of space when it comes to thanking God. Great to visit, milady!
    Joy!

    1. Miss Kathy: Thank you for stopping in. I have a friend who and her husband were short-term Missionasries to Haiti She said people in churchl pews, cars, and buses always had the same philosophy---"Always room for one more," When we live for the LORD we can never not have room for for another praise.

    2. Cecelia, I don't recall when it started, but I have gotten into the habit of saying "Thank you, Jesus," every time I get in my car to go somewhere and when I return. In addition, when I pray, I always thank Him for the day or night, for my family and anything special that may have happened. We can never be too thankful.

    3. Angela: That is a GOOD habit to get into.

  2. It is a good discipline of the heart to record our list of things for which we are grateful even when we are going through the "blah times". It helps us to focus on the fact that God is still with us even when we don't feel Him there or when we feel like He's forgotten us. I try to remember to do that every day...but I must admit there are days that I just don't feel like being thankful. I'd rather complain. But God seems to understand that and gives me that time and space to get it all out...because He know that is a part of the healing and growth of faith and trust. He will never let us go no matter how "blah" our days may become. Praise God for that promise!

  3. This is such a good habit! I have had downhearted times when I did not feel God's presence at all. it is not fun and kinda scary. But underneath the fear is the knowledge that he is close even if I do not feel Him. It's just a basic fact that we can trust.

    1. Susie: Even if I have a bad sstart to a day I try to quote Psalm118:24 "This is the day the LORD has made;I will rejoive and be glad in it." And my day seems to turn around. And He is just a prayer away from us in our time of need Blessings to you and yours.

  4. Cecelia- Once again I love how you take a Scripture and apply it to your life and then encourage me by your example...listing my blessings and thanksgivings cures me of the blahs almost every time...sometimes I even thank God for the hard things and it amazingly changes my attitude and heart direction...

  5. Hi Cecelia! So many good things to be thankful for, thank you for that great list! And yes, I have been in the 'blahs' and in the quiet times when I don't hear God. It's hard, but even though I don't hear Him, I know He's still there, just as you said. I guess that's where faith comes in, and trust too, that He's with me, around me and in me.
    Blessings for a renewed joy!

    1. Ceil: We serve a great God who understands our needs. When I get the 'blahs' I can either stay there or I can find something to thank Him for.

  6. A friend and I often played "The Thanksgiving Game" when I was in Bible School. It never failed to cheer us and get our minds off the daily pressures.

    1. Susan: When I call one patricular friend and she tells me she almost called me or was getting ready to call me, I know we need to pray about her need. In our pray we always find something to thank God for somethingin our lives. It can be something very small'we find it is important to thank Him for all things.
