“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do
this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your
cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for
him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their
wicked schemes. Psalm 37:5-8 (NIV)
“Commit”: Give over to someone; Promise
to perform a certain deed or duty.
“Trust”: rely upon; have faith in;
believe in another person.
“righteousness”: being deemed blameless
in God’s eyes.
“justice”: the correctness of a person’s
or an institution’s actions.
“Be still before the Lord”: Stand
silent, listening for what He has to say.
“wait
patiently for him”: Do not be in a rush. Expectantly bide your time.
Remember God’s timetable is not ours.
“do not fret when men succeed in their
ways”: Do not worry or fear when God’s people become victims of evil
people. We see stories about the escalating crime rates in our cities and
states. We also know those doing the injurious acts will have to face God as
they leave this earth.
“when they carry out their wicked schemes.”
We have seen and heard of a lot of evil in this world. Pick up your daily
newspaper, read the “Nation & World” pages, and then reread those stories
with God’s eyes. Pray for those involved in the tragedy or the action. We need
to make this a daily practice.
Such a wonderful reminder to wait on the Lord...and not to fret because of the evil people and their ways. In these tumultuous days we have to be reminded frequently to trust the Lord and not be stressed over things we cannot control. Thank you for this teaching from God's Word. One of my favorites...and I need to read it often!

DeleteHi Cecelia! I like your suggestion to read the paper with 'God's eyes'. How saddened he must be! I know that sometimes it's just too much for me, imagine his reaction...
ReplyDeleteThe thought about being still is a good one too. It's hard to peel myself away from the busyness, but I need to if I want to hear his voice clearly.

Ceil: I woke up yesterday @ 4:30 A.M. and could not go back to sleep. As I watched TV in the afternoon, I got a 20 minute nap when I fell asleep. Heard a great sermon at church. Made some contacts for a publicity skit I am working on for VBS. All in all, a good day. Blessings on you and yours.
