With A Heavy Heart

I sit here in my home on the night of April 15, 2013. The news channels carry information about the explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line.
I hear reports from my husband who watches the newscasts. People who have been hit by shrapnel are losing legs. Runners who have trained for this event may lose hope because of their injuries and the treatment they have to receive.
The possibility of infection resulting from the shrapnel lodged in their legs leads the medical community to amputate.
This is a time when people need the Lord. God did not cause this act to happen; man did. We have to trust Him to comfort the families of those who are injured and those who have lost loved ones.
Tuesday April 16. The Today show brought its viewers more information. One of the guests had worked for the Secret Service. She gave information about what to observe when we are in a crowd; Are there trash cans nearby? Is there a mail box close to where you might stand? Is there a glass storefront behind the area? She said, “The best place to stand is near a concrete or steel building.”
One of those interviewed said that this would affect everyone who participated or attended the marathon.
Indianapolis has two events involving running, The Susan G. Komen Fun Run and the Indy Mini Marathon. Those in charge of these events are refining plans for security.
One of the three who died was an 8 year old boy. His mother and a sister were seriously injured as well. It seems the father was running in the marathon.
As a mother, I feel sad for the boy’s parents. As a Christian, I am thankful that only three lives have been lost. All I can do is pray for those who have been injured and for those families who lost a loved one.
Will you pray with me for these runners and their families? These participants in the Boston Marathon have trained for this marathon. Their families along the sidelines support them.

Faith Hope and Charity

Faith “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) Faith, reliance on another, helps when we find ourselves facing an experience we can’t handle by ourselves. We display our faith when we arise in the mornings and begin our days. We exercise our faith when we purchase a home or a vehicle.

Hope “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. . .” 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) One of my fellow bloggers left me a comment that defined hope as earnest expectation. I like this meaning.

Charity “. . . but the greatest of these is charity.” 1 Corinthians 13:13 (KJV) Charity is an old-time word for love. I wonder which Greek word for love is synonymous with charity. We display charity or love when we stand with a friend as that friend faces a tough time.
