Be Strong, Take Heart

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
Psalm 31:24 (NIV)

David writes this as a coda to a very powerful passage. He starts out writing a prayer to the Lord.

The shepherd king gives advice to his readers, those contemporary to him and those in modern times. He tells us to not give in to the circumstances that beset us. He focuses his words to those who seek refuge in our heavenly Father.

One of my friends at church used to work with our son. She has endeared herself to me because I know she prays for him. A new issue faces her right now. A family illness has come into her life. When I get the opportunity I am going to share this scripture with her. We recently discovered we knew some of the same people. When her son was small, she lived in a nearby neighborhood. Our bond is getting stronger.

In light of what is going on in our nation and our world, we all should be mindful of our need to be strong in God. We do this by prayer and by staying in contact with Him. We recently had a young woman get hit twice as she walked along the main artery on the east side of our town. The driver of the first vehicle left the scene. She didn’t make it. The second impact was considered an accident.

We all need the comfort and direction of the LORD. Let us all learn to seek refuge in our Him.
