“Do not lie
to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices, and
have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of
its Creator.” Colossians 3:9-10 (NIV)
In looking
at this passage, I notice that the Holy Spirit works to renew us as we approach
Jesus in prayer, ask His forgiveness for, and repent from our falling short of
what He has planned for us.
This renewal
of self may be instantaneous. We sense a lightening of our spirit. Our burden
is lifted and our hearts are free. Or we continue our daily lives but notice
events appear affect us differently, we respond to those scenes more gently. We
finally realize that God had performed what we have asked Him.
Because we
have abandoned our old self and allowed Christ to remake our personas, we will
resemble Jesus to others.
This is one of my lifetime goals, to be renewed in my thinking and act like Jesus. I especially long to keep my tongue in order!
ReplyDeleteJeanette: Thank you for stopping by. God has reminded me of Romans 12:1-2. It can be difficult not to conform to the world. But, with His help and guidance, we can renew our minds and our hearts. You do act like Jesus, I see Him in you and in your writing.
DeleteGreat post!I love that passage in Colossians - so important!

Debbie: Thank you for stopping by. God's Word has become very important to us as we await His Son's return. Usually, I post three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please feel free to stop by when you can. The door is always open.
DeleteGreat post. It reminds me of something Max Lucado said in one of his books. God loves us the way we are, but He wants us to become more like Jesus. That is my desire.
