July Reflections

I am reminded of a song from my childhood, The Long Hot Summer. This has how I would describe this month.

Decorating Project
On July 4th, I went to Hobby Lobby and got a picture matted and framed. The picture was one I took of the Dogwood tree we planted in 2016. Here are the original picture and the framed finished product.

Gathering of Friends

I attended an outside gathering of friends from our former church. We utilized the pavilion of our present church. Usually, there is a breeze up on that hill where the church property sits. That day the breeze was warmer than usual.

One of those friends has had cancer and went through radiation and chemo. That chemo seemed to ruin her kidneys and had to undergo dialysis as well. We heard in late June she was CANCER FREE. She still is undergoing dialysis three days a week. Her name is Ruth. Please pray for her and her daughters.

The Fruits of the Season

Hubby and I are enjoying the fruits of the season, the vegetables also. Indiana tomatoes and Indiana sweet corn are very tasty. A fruit market near us is owned by a farm in the next county east of us. The young man who was working the first day they were opened told Hubby that no one thought they could open this year until last week.

Progress with My Ankle

My ankle seems to be doing better. I sometimes have twinges. Sometimes, I must take the stabilizer off and try to go without it. I have concluded that the pain I feel is from arthritis setting in.

Personal Bible Study

I am doing a six-week-long Bible Study on the background of certain Hymns. This really makes me think about God in an expanded way.

I also have been reading and making notes on certain Psalms. I started doing this because our Sunday school leader to be able to share our favorite ones and our thoughts about them.

Books I have read

I have read and reviewed The Pursuit of God, by A. W. Tozer. I am also reading True Worshipers by fellow blogger Marja Verschoor Meijers. As I read it, I am journaling notes from each chapter. I hope to have a review ready early next month.

Mustard Seeds

Our Prayer group went on the road in the last week of July. Six of us journeyed by carpool to the seven elementary schools in our city. At each school, we exited our cars and assembled around either the flag pole or the entrance of the building and someone said a short prayer for the students, the teachers, and the staff. At the first stop the two men in our group talked to the principal and told her what we were going to do. She told them that they could use all the prayers they could get.

In early August we will do the rest of the public schools and possibly the nursing homes.
Peace and Blessings to each of you.

  1. Wow, I love what your "Mustard Seeds" prayer group is doing. What a wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing that with us. You've been busy with a lot of different and interesting things. I love the picture of your dogwood tree. That really looks nice framed and matted. I am sorry to hear that you are still having issues with your ankle. Praying it will heal correctly and you will soon be able to do without the brace completely. I have not found a fruit/vegetable stand in our area this summer, and I really miss being able to get fresh fruit and veggies. I may have to plant a garden next year. I will lift up Ruth in my prayers. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the summer! Hard to believe August is already upon us! Wow! God bless you and keep you safe and healthy.

    1. Pam: We are continuing with this journey to the schools tomorrow. Yes, we are also going to the nursing homes. This venture has given us a boost in our faith. Our lay leader has asked me to write up my thoughts. He asked permission to use what I write in the September newsletter. Peace and blessings.
