Jesus Does Not Judge

Scripture: John 12:44-50

Focus Scripture: “For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.” John 12:49 (NIV)

John says this is Jesus’ last public teaching.1 He spends His remaining time on earth teaching the disciples.

We hear from a young age that our last words tell others about our true selves. In this passage, Jesus tells his listeners, when one believes in Him, he or she also believes in God who sent Him.
The Teacher tells them, and us, that He does not judge us, but God does. He also states that the words He speaks come from God the Father. Where do the words we speak have their source? Do they come from God or from our own angry hearts? We are the ones who have to decide. Only God can show us the source of our words and our emotions.

We, who live in the 21st Century, need to pay closer attention to Jesus’ words as we face and work through our problems and those of our world. We should pray and, then, listen.

  1. Hi Cecelia! It is a wonder that Jesus spoke only what the Father told Him to say. Imagine if we all did the same? What a beautiful world it would be. All loving, supporting and encouraging. That would be heaven on earth, wouldn't it?
    Wishing you a blessed Sunday,
    Ceil

    1. Ceil: You are so right, the world would be a better place if we only spoke what God would tell us to. I had an experience of NOT telling a friend what I thought of a circumstance she had. Had I told her what I thought, it could have had disatrous effects on her and her family. Instead, I asked if we could pray about it. The answer to our prayers took her out of the main picture and let two others work things out.

  2. Hi Cecelia, I agree. Many times we make the mistake of listening to others instead of following God's word. In these times we need to follow His word more than ever.

    1. Angela: Yes, we need to pray and read his word more. God gave us two eyes and two ears, but only one mouth. Shouldn't we use them in that proportion? Blessings on you and yours.

I would be honored to hear what you think about this.
