For it is by grace you have been saved
through faith. And it is not of your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a
result of works so that no man may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
Paul tells the believers at Ephesus that God saved them by
His love, the love they didn’t deserve. He also explains that God’s grace comes
to them as a response to their faith in Him.
They couldn’t do any work or deed to make God save them. If
salvation had come to them because of some action they had done, it would lead to
their boasting. Likewise, we can't do any work or deed to make ourselves look more acceptable to God. Sometimes, as humans, we call attention to something we have done when God had performed a glorious deed. When we do this, we rob Him from
getting the praise He deserves.
All Paul writes to the Ephesian believers applies to us
today. We must come to God in faith, trusting in Him. Each of us must give Him
whatever is on our hearts and let Him work out the details.
Yes, faith is so important! The writer of Hebrews says it's the substance of things hoped for. I love that image.
ReplyDeleteJeanette: Our faith in God is what keeps us striving to work for Him. Peace and blessings.
