I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also, my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:7-8 (ESV)
King David penned these words about the LORD. Let’s look at what he says.

I bless the LORD

David blesses the LORD through his writings. If he had not written, we would not have a vast section of the book of Psalms.

How do we bless the LORD? Do we use the gifts He gives us to build His kingdom? Do we speak of His Name to others? Do we comfort people with His words?

We bless the LORD through praising Him.

who gives me counsel

Do we ask God to guide us through those tough or distasteful times? Or do we think, “I can handle this on my own.” In comforting others do we rush in and give them our opinion without consulting the LORD? We should consult God before we venture into someone else’s grief or circumstance.

We bless the LORD by asking Him for His wisdom and His guidance.

in the night also my heart instructs me.

As God’s children, we believe He guides us through each day. Do we also believe God is with us and guides us through every night?

We bless the LORD when we trust Him.

I have set the LORD always before me;
Do we look to God as the source of everything we have? Do we see Him as a refuge in rocky times?  Have we sometimes decided we can fend for ourselves?

We bless God when we depend upon Him.

because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

When we have God with us, we can face anything that life throws at us. I recently experienced a time of intense sadness. Some time ago a person told me something that did not play out the way that person said. Other people made choices that were not mine. With some help, I realized that I felt betrayed. Just realizing that I have been able to share with those close to me how I felt. God led me to get some help and for that, I give Him praise.

We bless the Lord when we admit we need His guidance.

  1. Having Christ "at my right hand, I shall not be shaken". Sometimes we can be shaken by bad news, disappointments, and betrayals. It may take some time to forgive, recover, and move on. But God is always there for us during those times, ready to carry us through to higher ground and peace of mind once again. We just need to trust Him to be there and let Him comfort us as we grieve over our hurts and losses. God is very patient with us...He understands our hurts and heartaches and doesn't hold it against us. He never lets go, and keeps us safe as we work through the pain. So very thankful for a loving, caring, understanding Lord and Savior. This was an excellent post. Thank you for sharing it... and sending (((hugs))) to you today.
