Sing
to the LORD a new song.
Sing
to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing
to the LORD. Praise his name,
Proclaim
his salvation, day after day.
Psalm 96:1 (NIV)
After having our church closed for three months due to
COVID, we have met for worship three Sundays. One of the restrictions we had to
abide by was that we could not sing as a congregation. This was tough for a few
people to accept. Those who were able to contain themselves for the sake of
meeting together really felt constrained. This next Sunday, July 5, 2020, we
will be able to sing. This brought a “clap offering of praise” when the pastor
announced it. We miss singing praise to God that much.
The book of Psalms is a collection of songs and
meditations of praise to the LORD. The members of our Sunday school class,
while not meeting together right now, are studying them as part of our
devotions.
Sing to the LORD a new song.
Those who belong to God see things differently. They
think of things considering God’s Word. Their viewpoint is based on what they
have learned from reading God’s Word.
sing to the LORD, all the earth.
This Psalm tells us that everything on the earth is to
sing praises to God. When we hear birdsong, birds are singing to the LORD. I
wonder, could the hum of bees sometimes be praising God? Could frogs on ponds
also praise God when they croak?
Sing to the LORD. Praise his name.
When we sing hymns or choruses, we follow the practice of
the Old Testament people and lift our voices in praise.
After we enter heaven, we will sing and give praise to
God all the time. Why not start now, each day, and sing praise to God for what
He has done for us?
We will not be able to sing when we start back on Sunday. I am really going to have a hard time with that also, and I don't know when that restriction will be lifted. So happy you are able to sing again. I can sing in my heart and at home, which I do. God loves to hear our praises in song.
ReplyDeletePam: We had our praise team and praise band who sang and played praise music. The first Sunday, there were some around me who seemed not to be able to contain themselves, they sang along with the praise team. So, be prepared for those there who find themselves singing along. Peace and blessings.
DeleteSing to the Lord, all the earth! No restrictions there :) I agree with you Cecelia, not singing is weird, singing is our gift to God. Here in the Netherlands we have that restrictions too, churches have not been opened yet.
ReplyDeleteMarja: A lot of us can't wait to be able to sing. On the list of phases to re-open, our pastor has us going through six of them. The last one reads September 1 to the second surge. Some states have had to back up on re-opening things. Our governor warned us that if things did not go well, we would have to back up. Peace and blessings.
